Mr.Mohamad A. Vayid, CMG, GOSK
Mohamad VAYID has had a varied career spanning both the private and the public sector. He was a senior executive of BAT Co. Ltd. in Mauritius, London and Africa, occupying various positions as Chairman and Managing Director of BAT Companies and as Coordinator for Africa and the West Indies, based in London.
In the public sector he has been Chairman of the Central Housing Authority, the Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation, the National Housing Development Company, the Mauritius Research Council and the Mauritius Oceanography Institute. More recently he was elected to chair the National Economic and Social Council.
Mohamad VAYID has also been active as a member of the Mauritius Marine Authority, the Central Electricity Board, the Special Constitutional Tribunal, the Permanent Arbitration Tribunal, the Law Review Committee, while he chaired the Select Committee on Film Censorship, whose Report has been adopted and its recommendations are currently in force.
Mohamad is a former Chairman of the Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry and of the Mauritius Employers Federation. He is currently Chairman and Managing Director of Strategic Management Consultants Ltd, which he founded in 1989, and a Director of investment companies in the financial services sector.
Mohamad holds an Honours degree in History and Constitutional Law from Edinburgh University and management qualifications from Bradford University (U.K) and I.M.D. Lausanne, Switzerland. Mohamad is a Fellow of the U.K. Chartered Management Institute, and a Member of the Institute of Directors, London. He was appointed C.M.G. for public service by H. M. the Queen in the 1976 New Year Honours and Grand Officer of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean by the President of the Republic in 2007.
