ESU Mauritius Past President 2009-2011
Ms P. Sharmilla Bhima was elected President of the English-Speaking Union Mauritius Branch in May 2009.
Ms. Bhima holds a B.A (Hons) in Laws from the University of Reading, U.K and has been a practising barrister in private practice for several years. She joined Appleby in August 2007 where she is now a Senior Associate .She is the Chairperson of the Industrial Property Tribunal, Vice-Chairperson of the Motor Vehicle Insurance Arbitration Committee. She has helped with the preparation of a chapter on Intellectual Property in two books authored by Ms. M-L Lam Hung, Bar-at-Law, “Investing in Mauritius: An Ocean of Opportunities” and “Doing Business in Mauritius”. She has authored articles on Intellectual Property law and Industrial law.
Ms Bhima joined the ESU in 2001. She has been an active member of the Executive Committee since March 2002 and represented ESU on the board of the “President’s Fund for Creative Writing in English” from 2006 to 2008. She attended the ESU International Summer Conference held at Oriel College , Oxford , in 2002.
